I recently got 2 Skunk Clowns, like this one:

http://www.ffexpress.com/fish/clowns/pinkskunk.htm

I don't want to get an anemone, but I would like to get a substitute host for them, is their anyone that might know of a Substitute that might have the best luck?

it's a 58 gal. reef tank, I should get my dual 96W PC Retro sometime next week, it will be combined with an existing 55 W PC Smartlite mounted to the canopy, 247W total, I'm replacing my JBJ's that are in there now.

My oscellaris clowns made thier home in my large colt coral. They don't bother the colt even though they roll around in it all day and sleep in it at night. Other corals that clowns have been known to attach to include, hairy mushrooms (not elephant ears-these will eat the fish!), zoanthid polyps, bubble corals, torch/hammer/frogspawn coral, sarcophyton toadstool leathers (these corals may take a while to get used to the fish). Also, patches of filimenteous algae and Kushballs have been reported to be used by clownfish, too. :D

I had 2 true percs (sadly they didn't make it - this was a while ago) and they took to my frogspawn. And the frogspawn didn't even seem to notice them. It did take a little while though.

When people first introduce clowns, they typically post about them hanging out toward the top of the tank in the open. That's what mine did as well. What are yours doing?

My orange skunks moved into their bubble coral. They lived there happy, even after the cinnamon tomato,s moved in with them.

I have two Percula clowns and they were in my branching frogspawn at first and then moved to my hammer coral. I think that they moved because the frogspawn would retract almost fully at night. They would try to rub up against them and get frustrated when they were retracted. They wandered around at night and finally found the hammer coral which wouldn't fully retract at night. They now live there and don't venture out too much.

My percs live in my colt coral. It took them a few months before the "moved in". Keep in mind that some clowns will never take a host in captivaty.

well, their not at the top, their staying about mid tank on the left, the low flow side, their hovering above this one piece of Fiji most of the time, at least they like each other and stay close. :D that's cool in its self.

I have a frogspawn, but it's in my Mini reef, it's a small one, I'll move it to the main tank as soon as it gets too big for the Mini, I'll put in a Hammer coral as soon as I find a nice one too, that would give them even more options on down the road incase they do decide to take residence somewhere. :)

thanks everyone, thanks Tan. :)
