What does everyone use to examine your tank in the dark? I usually just use a small flashlight but I think I read something about using a "red" light so as not to disturb the inhabitants? Is it just a matter of shining the light through some red cloth?

As always....

Thanks for the help!!

use red cellophane-works great! red spectrum is not visible to the animals.

Home Depot or Lowe's sells a small flashlight called "hubblelight" that comes with a interchangeable red lens and even a bent acrylic attachment for seeing 'around corners?'. It's about $10. Look in the flashlight area.

Since I work in theatre, I just got a piece of red gel that the lighting people use, and cut a piece to fit my mini mag. Mini mag also sells a kit with a light and a red lens (and some other colors too) since it's only around $8, I have one dedicated to my tank. (just used it to check out how my new anchor coral was doing!)
