Polyp Extension is a reaction to a stimulus. That could be food in the water, a lack of oxygen, excessive waste's inside the coral (that it needs to flush)...
Dosing DT's?
Is your pH low? High?
When was the last water change?
Running GAC?

How is the system health overall? Are you having any other issues besides polyp extension? What type of system are you running (DSB, fuge, etc)?

And like Mac asked, what are your water parameters like and are you dosing anything?

A little more information would be nice to give our best guesses. :)

water quality PH 8.2 (daytime) 8.1 (night time) alk 13.1 calcium 475 Po4 0 nitrate 0 nitrite 0 ammonia 0 feed dt's every other night (a suggestion that there might be to many nutrients in the water led to this) even though the skimmer doesnt skim in early evening corals grow and extend at night but do not dureing the day...

tank is a 120 oceanic reef ready with a 100 gallon rubbermaid fuge/sump i have a k2R calcium reactor with a addon second stage return pump is an iwaki 70 RLT i have 2 MJ 1200's in the tank for added circulation

Somebody with better knowledge of corals should chime in here, but I always thought polyp extension was a feeding response. Usually, corals in the wild extend polyps at night to capture food, whereas during the day they rely on photosynthesis for nutrition and polyps are minimally extended. Perhaps your lighting is so strong that they don't require the need to feed during the day.

That is my half-assed explanation anyway. What kind of lighting do you have?

While you certainly have good lighting, I honestly can't say that your corals aren't "feeding" just because of the light. Maybe there's enough info here for a true coral genius to step in. :)

Specifically which species of corals do you have? Can you post some photos? My acroporas have mixed results when it comes to polyp extension. My millepora always have nice extension during the day and fantastic polyp extension at night. Other acroporas have little to no extension during the day. Some days they extend more than others, but the really long polyps come out at night.

Here is a photo of a healthy acro that shows little expansion during the day:
