I have found recently that the trace of Nitrate and Nitrate is not exactly zero and hear it has to do with the use of the wet dry. Can anyone advise on how to convert this darn thing to be more useful??? Heard once about removing bio balls...but don't know the entire procedure. Please advise.

A trace of nitrate is not bad, it is actually recommended if you are keeping clams. I would still recommend dishing the wet/dry. I too am using an Amiracle as a sump. Remove the balls a little at a time, possible a dozen or so a week. Toss the drip tray, and let the overflow from the tank run right into your new 'sump.'
