Congratulations. i would say I'm jealous, but I think I personally would be overwhelmed. I'm sure it will be beautiful to see. What are your plans. i assume it's a reef, but do you have any special stocking ideas?

Hi,

Yes It can be a little overwhelming. But I have everthing mapped out pretty well.

As for stocking, It will be for all corals. SPS, LPS, Softies, Clams, etc.

As for fish, HMMMMMmmmmmm.

Well at the most 15 fish.

The ones I like to have , but we will see as to which ones I go with which because of compatability.

Flame Angel
Yellow tang
Purple tang
3-5 green chromes
for sure a mandrin(just seen a 3" one at a LFS, havnt see one tat big since my last reef tank)
panther grouper(just kidding)
Powder blue
blue heptaus(spelling i know)
lawn mower blenny

as for the rest, just dont know at the moment

Yes nothing but a reef, LOL

I may someday put up a 125 or so for a predator tank. Both me and the wife like panthers, Lions, eels.

Steve

hi,

Yes the tank is in the basement on I Assume 6" of concrete. My house was built in 56.

The way I built the stand there is only 10 Lbs per square inch on any given part of the stand.

The stand has a 3/4" piece of oak plywood on top 2x6's all the way around and the biggest opening below the plywood is 10" widths. I have seen the stands that come with 300g tanks and cant believe they hold.

I think I went a little overboard on the stand, I forgot I was building a stand not a bomb shelter, LOL

Hi Everyone,

update

Here is my first of 2 closed loops powered by ampmaster 3000's

The jandy valve is a 24v actuator that will switch returns every 2 mins by a relay timer.

(inside tank plumbing not finished)

Thanks Jason,

I will ether order them or I might just use a 3 way split.(4 holes with 3 intake ports with 1 1/2" strainers on each)

Steve

3 way would be better. Just as long as you can clean them easily. Mine have been in use for about 3 months now and they are already getting covered with Coralline and other algae growth.

Are you keeping track of costs? I would be interested in the cost difference between my 190 and your 300. I have all my receipts I just haven't tallied them up (too scared to see the total 8O ).

Ok, Here is the 2 closed loops completed. I did decide to send one return to the opposite side when the valves are in the right position.

Snake guy--Now in the pic I dont have the overflow plumbing done yet, what I have done now is just the closed loops. Water comes out goes though the pump and back in the tank.

Also decided to paint the stand white,

Steve

Next is the sump and overflow :)

Have to love the Slip-to-Slip PVC pieces for when you screw up! I have a bunch on my plumbing too!

You are using PVC primer and glue correct? I never knew how important the primer was until I bought the AmpMasters which have a ton more pressure then I had on my last system. On my last system I was able to get away with not using primer.

Hi Jason,

Yes I used all the correct glues and primer on all connections.

The Jandy valves are CPVC so I needed that glue also.

I used

Purple primer for everything
CPVC glus for the Jandy Valves
PVC glue for most fiitings
Flex PVC glue for The Flex PVC connections,

I know people have used just one glue for everything and worked out fine, but why take the chance, :)
