Looks like a pretty good inexpensive wavemaker using water pressure to turn a turbine/impeller, which in turn oscillates the flow between to lines.
I'm thinking of throwing one in my overflow (if it'll fit).
Anyone have one of these?

looks neat?

the only bad thing about that is the more water u pump the faster the flow. and with all the moving parts in there and no way to cleanit. what are you gonna do if it cloggs.

And how much flow does it handle?

$36 at www.CustomAquatic.com
I just ordered one.
LA Lawman, I think you are absolutely correct. Flowrate determines the oscillation period. I had a similar device before. It worked fine and eventually did freeze up on me. But I just pulled it apart and cleaned it. I figure the same may happen here.
Well, when I install it, I'll take post a video clip.

I would think that they should stay pretty clean since it's filtered return water passing through them.

I just wonder if a high flowrate means greater wear and less reliance. With 1400 GPH passing through, I'll bet it oscillates like a jack-hammer.

There is a huge thread on the device at reefcentral.

I have one set up on a mag 9.5 through 1/2 pvc. It works great, is quiet, and will be easy to clean if it gets clogged. I may upgrade to 3/4 pvc when I get the chance. (the scud is 1/2 inch 'barbed'). Also, at 36 bucks, it I have to replace it once a year I ain't gonna cry.

The unit does restrict flow by about 20%.

I'm holding out for the 1" or 1.5" version. My feeling is that I'm going to lose a fair amount of flow thru 3/4" pipe.

Last Friday I received the SQWD. Monday I installed it in my overflow. It took about an hour, but was relatively easy to install. My source is a Mag 7 located in the sump. There's about 3.5' of head on this pump and it alternates the flow between the 2 outlets every 8 seconds or so (it's complete cycle time is about 16-17 seconds).
I am pretty please with the performance so far. I'd say it creates more random turbulence in about 50% of the tank. My finger leather and hedoni are in somewhat of a dirct path of flows and they both tend to sway a bit which, if anything at all, looks like a natural oceanic wave effect.

Now it's making me consider building some sort of an oscillator for the other 2 Aquaclear 201's. Has anyone built an oscillator before?

I've had one going for about two weeks now on my closed loop. Using a Iwaski md40-rlt. I put my outputs in the front corners. It works great.
