keeping shrimp

How long should i wait after cycling until being able to keep any kind of shrimp in my tank?

Not to take ya off topic, but I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER add any shrmp to my tanks again. I have had 2 shrimp ( a cleaner and a blood ) in my tank for 2 years now. They grown like mad ( the cleaner anyways, he molts once a month almost, blood molts every 4 months or so). Anyways, my cleaner is constantly crawling all over my corals causing them to close up. That includes my brains, torch, leathers, ect. My corals are never all open at one time because of that little bugger. And while feeding he's worse. I have started feeding right when the lights come on so that when he stampeeds around feeding most of the corals are closed anyways...

He's also has eaten about 50% off all my clown eggs laid. The clowns beat the $hit out of him but he continues to eat them.

I have tried traps several times, nets, you name it. Everything short of taking the tank apart. My next step is to make a tiny spear-gun and spear him through the head... :twisted: He really pisses me off. And I know when I get him out the Blood Shrimp will claim his teritory them I'll be in the same situation with the blood...

SORRY HAD TO VENT A BIT !! Now, what did ya say? Something about cycling the tank and those little deamons? :lol:

I love critters with an attitude I am trying sexy shrimp at 6 weeks but they haven't taken right off like the crabs did. The only shrimp I will definitely avoid are the coral banded as they seem to have a killer instinct as well as an attitude.

Wow, that's not my experience with my skunk cleaner shrimp. He is super friendly. When I occasionally need to put my hand in the tank, he'll climb onto my hand and arm and run around. I like him

Yeah mine had always done the same till I tried netting him, he's terrified of me now, seriously !! He runs for cover now when i put my hands in the tank...

My peppermint shrimp I've had for awhile molted today and then died a couple of hours later. WHY?

i have a cleaner and a coral banded shrimp the cleaner just hides all day in his cave waiting for the fish to come in and be cleaned, he has never bothered my corsals and neither has the banded, thats my 2cents.

My two cleaner shrimps; one is the red blood shrimp type, always stay in the bottom and wait for fish to come by to their cleaning station. I occasionally will lower food for them instead of just them eating the scraps.... Never notices any damage from them in my 180g reef tank

My two new Sexy Shrimp have made it past the 24 hr mark. The big one is waving her fanny under the Branching Frogspawn. Maybe she likes the spots. The little guy seems fine but I don't think he's checked out much of the tank yet.

i have five shrimp in my tank and they cause no problems what so ever, very shy

Reefguide- just build a trap out of pvc with an eggcrate door that yanks shut when you pull it out. Bait it and they will go in. I catch fish with one, although you may have to leave it in for a couple of weeks until they get comfortable with it.

Back to the original post, I'd wait a month before adding shrimp.

Wait till your tank has finished cycling before you add shrimps. But, don't expect them to come out to greet you. Chances are some will never come out when you are watching the tank.
