i have a 375g with 2 built in overflows. the problem is that fish keep getting in there. how does everyone with this same set up keep them out. how do you get them out once thier in? it`s 30inches deep and i can`t reach the bottom of it because the hole up top is too small.

I've had my fair share of fish slip through the "gutter." I once tried installing nylon screen mesh and it did a great job at keeping smaller fish out, but the problem is it would trap so much debris in a short matter of time that I couldn't stand the constant maintanence. So now, all the fish I have aren't small enough to fit through the overflow grids. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any other solutions to this problem.

I fashion two standard 3" nets to fit my overflow box in order to catch the guys that fall into it. It's a painstaking process using one net to chase and the other to block, but that's the only way I can think off. I drain as much of the overflow as I can before I attempt removal (less water = less volume for the fish to run). All pumps are turned off so the water's surface is transparent. I use a mirror to see what I'm doing since I can't stand over my overflow located in the rear center of my tank.

PROBLEM SOLVED. TO GET THE FISH OUT OF THE OVERFLOW I STUFFED THE END OF A SMALL BRINE SHRIMP NET INTO A PIECE OF 1/2 pvc.

to keep the fish out i found some gutter guard with tight plastic mesh on it and ran that around my over flow up to the top of the tank. now they can`t go through or over.
