I have a 150 gallon tank and am looking for recommendations for water circulation. I have had 2 Rio powerheads quit in the last 10 days. These are not only loud but they don't seem to last long. Any recommendations for good quality pumps? Also how much water circulation is enough/too much for a reef system? I currently have Little Giant 4-MDQX-SC returning water from the sump. I think it is moving about 1000 gph. I also have a RedSea Wavemaker that I can connect up to 4 powerheads to. How many powerheads and what gph should I buy?

All depends on what you're planning to keep. A FOWLR tank needs considerably less circulation than a heavily stocked SPS tank. What are you planning to keep?

I plan on keeping a variety of corals, I am still unsure which ones. It will mainly depend on what my lighting will handle. I have currently have two 175-watt 10,000°K Metal Halide & two 65-watt 7,100°K PC's. The tank is 30 inches deep and 4 feet long.

You can try a couple of externally mounted GEmini powerheads (960gph) or place a Tunze or a reeftec in the tank.

The Gemini powerheads kick butt, and don't heat the water at all. I have one in a 120, and its a bit too much. I put a diffuser on it and now I can keep the sand bed down.

where do you find these "Gemini" powerheads. I have done searches on many online stores and can't find them.

The potential problem I see with that is that it has to stick out of the water 5 inches. I have an acrylic aquarium and the only access is toward the center of the aquarium (in 4 inches from the edges). If it sticks up 5 inches it will be hitting the lighting.
