I just came back from a frag party. Among the frags available were many Distichopora pieces, so I picked one up. I know these have a bad rep, so I'd like to pick the brains here in this forum and get some good care information on these guys. I understand high flow and low light, but I'm looking for more specifics if possible.

i bought some once when i wasn't very reef savvy and i couldn't ever tell if it was alive or not. prolly was dead when i bought it.

once it became encrusted with feather dusters and coralline i took the hint.

was someone doing so well with it that they were fragging large amounts of it?

They take a good amount of particulate food in teh water column to keep them happy too, so if you feed some sort of fine food, you should be ok. They do require some light, so don't put them in the dark, just in lower light (reduces algal growth on them).

Keep us informed of how it goes.

Gee, I thought they fell into the "virtually impossible" category. No personal experience, however.

Its like with anything... if someone has the dedicated resources to keep it alive, I bet it can be kept alive. Look at the filter feeder experiments being done in Hawaii. Its an ability to mimic its natural environment and provide the proper food... all that said, who here has that ability? Not many.
