Very easy LPS that likes strong lighting and an occasional feeding. If you supply both of these, then they will rapidly grow in size and be a very nice coral to have. Some have pretty cool color combinations also...I have a maroon and green one that is growing nicely under VHO.

Ill second that notion, I cant think of a more hardy LPS coral that works well in just about any system. For more info, do a search under Caulastrea and tons of hits will come up. If he wants to trade you it for some mushrooms, thats a good deal! These guys are very non-aggressive but get beat up easily by other corals such as mushrooms and hammers or any euphyllia for that matter.

NIce find, wish it were mine.

I've also seen it called trumpet coral. I have a frag I picked up as a trade at a local LFS and it is doing well in my 65G under 2x175 MH (10,000K) with 1 96W power compact actinic supplementing it.

I already have a nice bubble that is doing well so i guess the requirements are about the same since they are both LPS correct ?

He traded me for some mushroom rock because i usually supply this in exchange for store credit. The deal works like this he gives me some small pieces of live rock. I take them home and prop mushrooms on them he gives me about $15 credit for a piece with 4 or 5 polyups. he sells them for $30 apiece so it works out both ways.

Every coral in my tank came from trading shrooms from two original rocks I purchased.

by the way what do you feed them I add kent microvert occassionally and daphnia.

thx

Rich,

That's a great deal you've got going there. I do the same with green star polyps as they grow like a weed. I just have to make sure the right guy is working because the other guys don't have a clue. I just recently started feeding the tank DTs Phytoplankton 2-3 times per week. Other than that and weekly Iodine and fish food, I don't really feed it directly. One of the heads has split into 2 since I've had it so I guess it is doing well. Good luck with yours.
