Here is a pic of my moon lights on the bottom tank. They show up much better when it is completely dark.

Well, turn the moonlight off then!

Seriously, it looks good.

On a separate note, I hope you learnt your lesson and be a little bit more careful when introducing new livestock...

They are pretty cool. They are worth the 30.00.They dont seem to mess up the cycle of day or night.

I'd really like to get one of those because I'd like to see my nocturnal world after hours. I was under the impression that they might spook some of my night time creepy crawlers.

Have you seen your nocturnal inhabitants in there living it up? If it allows that I am in. Let me know, please.

All the night life still comes out. I need to put them on timers to so I dont burn them out.

Very nice effect seawiz. Tanks look great.
I use a Christmas tree light string with a couple of blue bulbs in them. I scratched off some of the blue film on the bulbs to give a blue-white moonlight effect. Cheap and effective.

Where do you place the bulbs in or around the tank? Just curious because I might try this too!

If they're LEDs, they won't burn out--there's no filament.

I just strung them across the top, in front of the light hood and stapled them to the wall at either end, about 3" from water surface. My tank is in-wall so you can't see them from the viewing side. Just one or 2 bulbs in the socket. This is not meant to replicate moon phases for spawnng or any of that. It simply gives a nice low-light effect for spying on creatures at night.
Take a knife and scratch off the blue film on the bulb until you achieve the colour mix that appeals to you.
I could get much fancier by using 2 bulbs for full moon and a partially hooded bulb for various moon phases but never bothered.

I used a 25W GE "party light" and a porcelin base. I put it on a timer. The whole thing prolly costed $15 including appliance cord. Looks really cool. Especially at night when all the lights in the house are off.

If you don't have moon simutalion, I highly recommend it. It is really neat.

Just curious - do you moonlighters have it on the same times every night, or does anyone try to duplicate the times the actual moon is shining? Are there any timing devices to do that? I guess if it is just for looks it wouldn't matter, but if one wants to accommodate the critters that time their breeding cycles etc. on the moon, it would.

I just use an old 36 icnh no actinic bulb. It has an internal reflector, so I point it towards the top of the canopy. Way cheap, recycling an old bulb and it looks great.

Some people do try to replicate the phases of the moon, but I have read that some have stopped because it is difficult to clean up the mess from mass spawning events in closed systems.

Solar dimmers do moon phase I believe.

Seawiz, where did you get your LED setup?
