I have a turbo snail that is lying on its back behind a pile of live rock. Can they turn themselves over or do I need to move some rocks and help him out?

They should able to do that, unless they are weak (starvation), wedged in difficult positions, or have injuries from other tank inhabitants.

But, if you are worried, go ahead and get your hands wet. :D

I have roughly 50 snails in my 55 gallon. So needless to say I am always getting my hands wet! lol

The bigger guys can right themselve no problem but I have lost some of the smaller ones because i didn't get them up in time.

Depends on whether you actually mean Turbo snail (Turbo fluctuosus) or the more common Astrea snail (Astrea tectum or Astrea americanum).

Usually the first can right itself, the second can not.

from what I read from different internet sources there are only a few species of snails that can right themselves. Turbos not being one of them. When mine fall and land on their back they usually sit there until I right them, they stretch far enough the grab hold of something or anothe snail come along and they hitch a ride. I have a graveyard of snail shells

I have had three about the size of a golf ball for at least 6 months. I only turned one over once.....and that was when I transfered them to another tank. I did not even take time to acclimate them(other tank leaked). I leave them alone. They are all alive and seem healthy. They are very efficient cleaners.
