I hate to say it but I think your fish is probably done for. However, I'm going to move this to the General Discussion forum as you will get more replies than here.

How long have you had him? What are your tank parameters, eg temp, pH, salinity, alk, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate readings, etc...and do you see any white spots, ripped fins, or physical trauma?

I have had 2 different clowns that have done this.

The would normally do it at night. They always acted kinda goofy "clowns".

When I got them an anemone they stoped laying sideways on the tank at night....

How long's the tank been set up? You say water parameters are 'fine', but what exactly are they? What kind of filtration are you running? Do you have a protein skimmer? Do you have enough surface agitation for proper oxygenation?

Tracy,
I wouldn't worry about your clown unless it becomes sluggish and starts gasping for air. Our Percula clowns did this for weeks when we bought them as babies. It really had us worried, but they seemed to be fine otherwise. Then they started making trips down into their host and stayed there longer and longer until they never went back to the top. HTH!
