I have a wet/dry filter on my tank. It is a typical setup..with a big drip plate on top with all the small holes.

Would it work to run carbon by filling this drip plate with carbon media? seems like it might work ok considering that area gets a pretty good amount of flow.

yes it would work but I don't think it would be worth the trouble.

First you would have to shut down the filter every time you have to replace the carbon. you might also change the flow of the water enough in certain areas of the filter so you won't get maximum filtration. But this is just an assumption on my part.

No need to shut down if you are one of those people with black sand

PJ,

I have a wet/dry in one of my tanks and that is what I do. Works great. I actually at times use a combo carbon/phosphate remover, I just change it more often.

I don't find that turning off the pump is a big deal.

why would you need to turn off the pump? i mean...when i cahnge out the filter floss, i just angle up the cover and pull it out with the water still flowing...id just assuyme do this with carbon....or better yet..make a filter floss/carbon sandwich and put it in there
