Ok so I got my new linkia last week. Acclimated for 5 hours and all was fine. Its been looking great up until today.

Knowing this is a fragile animal I check it several times a day, even after lights out with a flash light.

It looked fine when I got home from work today. I sat down and watched TV for 2 hours, and when I got up I noticed a white mark on the tip of one leg. It had what kind of looked like a small bit of flesh or fungus surround it.

I was able to suck it off with my turkey baster to get a better look. Kind of a whiteish looking tissued. Up close it looked very thin.

What Im wondering is if "osmotic meltdown" occurs this fast, or is it possible this is a fish bite?

I have a Bi-color Blennie, Royal Gramma, 3" Black Trigger that only comes out of the rockwork when I feed them, and a 3" Lineatus Tang.

This linkia is 8-10" across so I cant imagine my tiny fish doing anything to it, but I really hope thats the case.

Thanks :(

Im sure it isnt from a fish bite. I have fed a blue linkia to a pair of harlequin shrimp and I had to use a prety good size wire cutting tool to cut off a leg of the linkia.

Unfortunately, it can take over a month for the effects of poor acclimation to be seen. In other words, you can acclimate perfectly, but if the LFS did a poor job, you might not see problems for weeks after you bring him home. Keep an eye on it...if it starts to spread, I'm sorry to say your star is most likely a goner. I hate to tell you that, but that's how I see it. Good luck, and keep us posted.

A trigger seems a poor choice for a reef tank IMO. However I agree that the LFS probably didn't take the nessesary time to acclimate, linkas are very touchy.
