i'm thinking of buying one, but I've read a few reviews claiming the outlets burn out and customer support is terrible. Has anyone had any positive or negative experiences with this wavemaker? I am also open to other suggestions, I don't use a sump so I don't have a return for a SCWD or sea swirl, and don't really want to use them with PH's. TIA

I have one that I got used a few years ago with a tank I bought, it has been in use constantly. Never had a problem with it, even after I have accidentally pushed it off my canopy onto the hardwood floor several times.

But I have heard the reports from others of one outlet failing.

if we are talking about the red sea wavemaker mine is 7 years old and has had sw and kalk and Mg dripped on as well as general abuse and is still working just fine

Hmm, thanks for the responses, maybe there were only a few defective ones, sounds like yours can take some abuse. Would you recommend buying one of these units? The main drawback I see is it's not fully programmable. How are the preset programs? I will be using this in an SPS tank so I need fairly high flow with a lot of mixing. Are there good preset patterns for this? My other option would be buying a separate MVT wave timer for each PH, which is kind of a pain, but then I can have more control over ther timing of the pumps. What do you think? thanks again

Hmm, Chip I may be interested in that. Unfortunately I am leaving on vacation this week, but I will check with you when I get back to see if you still have it. Thanks for letting me know about it

There are 4 patterns that you can choose from. There is one that turns the powerheads on and off most frequently, and also has the most on at any given time, and that is the one I used for sps. I had one of those little adaptor cubes in each socket so I could run two powerheads on each outlet (for a 155g tank, have a closed loop now so I only run one powerhead/ outlet now).

When I got mine it didn't come with instructions so it may have more features than I know about. It has some kind of "night mode" setting (little moon next to the button) and as I don't have the instructions, I am not sure what that does.

Now that I think about I do have a minor issue with it, the button you hit to turn the pumps off temporarily for feeding is ultra sensitive. So I have to hit it a few times before it stays "on", usually it turns "on" then "off" in the time it takes me to hit the button.
