Hey guys,

I just placed an order with Drs Foster and Smith last night for a Maxima and some coral. I'll let you know how the ordeal comes out.. and the quality of the stuff when it arrives.

Just so you know they run a pretty sweet deal that if you buy from a selected list of things, and total $100 or more shipping is free. It's worth checking out. The coral selection isn't great on that list, but there are a fair amount of fishes aval.

Have a GREAT CHRISTMAS!

Yeah... I heard very good reports from these DRs too. One of my buddies runs a service business maintaining reef tanks here in the Northeast, and he commented to me that they are very competitive. ....from someone in the business to say that, they must be doing something right. .... Let us know when you receive the stuff how it all looks.

Just be aware that they, like most others, are using a wholesaler/warehouse to ship animals from... there's no holding and no verification of health as you would get from some other e-tailers/LFSs. Basically, its at your own risk... and can be good or bad depending on what it is.

Yeah, I've never personally used them... so it will be interesting to see results. I know that's how LFSs get their livestock (airmail), but I like to see what I'm about to purchase.

I'll keep you guys posted as to how things come out. I'm interested to see too. They do have the 14 day guarentee, which is pretty good, but I'm not sure exactly how that works. THe stuff is only suppose to be in the box a max of 16hrs, which isn't all that long. The only thing I'm concerned about is a bird's nest coral that I oredered, the other things should be fine as far as shipping goes, as long as the temp stays in a reasonable range.

FFE = flying fish express = www.ffexpress.com
They also have www.liveaquaria.com that has some pretty amazing livestock.

I'm not sure why Wade said that it's risky: they give you a 14 days guarantee - that's unheard of. My LFSs give me 0 days guarantee, and other e-stores vary 3-7 days...

I only ordered LR from them but I was very happy with what I got!

Yeah, I've been happy with LA so far. A package got delayed a while back (FedEx's fault) and it took 2 days for fish to get to me. 2 were dead on arrival, they refunded it, and a flame angel from the order is still alive and kicking. They said the 7 day guarantee (I thought it was 7...14?!) still applied even though FedEx claimed I wasn't there to get the package.

A guy I know who does tank maintenance for a living and he swears by ordering hardware from the Drs. - he doesn't order livestock though. He'd prefer to see what he is purchasing at a LFS.

For the drygoods, Drs. is just fine. As far as dry goods are concerned, bigger the company, usually better the price.

For regular livestocks, I still prefer hand select from LFS. and luckily for my location where I used to live, (Los Angeles), there is no shortage of livestock selections.

For the rare and unusuals, I prefer Marine Center. Though their price is also rare and unusual too.........

I've ordered dry goods and most of my live stock from them. I was very happy with what I got. They screwed up one of my orders and replaced it pronto, and I was pleased with the resolution.

Ok, the other day the items came from Drs. Foster and Smith, and I have to say they were in pretty good shape. It was no time until the clam had opened up, and the polyps on the bird's nest coral were extended. I'm still waiting on the long polyp leather to come out all the way. I think It may be in too much flow.. I'll experiment with it a bit this week.

Packaging was good, everything arrived on time and in good shape. Here are a few pictures after being in the tank 24hrs.
