Oceanic. I used to use IO but the Calcium was to low. 260 on 3 buckets I had (using 3 Salifert test kits as well). I switched to Oceanic and the CA in the tnak has been at 450. Alk has remained at 8 DKH.

If I've been using IO for 2 years is it OK, beneficial, or not to change to another brand, e.g. Oceanic? Or, is it best to stick with the same brand for this tank?
Why is instant ocean, and reef crystals under different headings. They are the same thing, with this poll I get the impression that everyone uses regular IO...is this incorrect? I thought vanilla IO had hardly any trace elements.
Oceanic - I have been using it since it has come out and have been very happy with it. It dissolves very quickly and my parameters seem to be more stable then when I used other types of salt.
IO is probably the most widely available brand. But I would not say it's the "best". The question is which one is the best, not which one goes on sale the most.
Although I don't buy them as much due to its high price tag, but I vote for Tropic Marin
Thanks to all for their responses. I guess I should ahve posed the question differnetly. I wished to know what people thought was the "Best" brand, but I also wanted to get an idea of what is most commonly used. Hence the poll question.
Can anyone answer if it is OK to change salts? I must assume it is especially if going from say IO to a brand known for more trace minerals, e.g. Oceanic.
I have noticed having a harder time keeping the alkalinity up after I switched from IO to oceanic. Wonder what would happen if you mixed the two....half oceanic and half IO. But that may be asking for trouble.
my bucket contained very high levels of calcium and very low alk level.
it's been awhile but i recall alk was measured around 1.9 meql. all i remeber is that calcium was absurdly high.
also, magnesium was off the chart.
i quit using the salt because of the whacked out numbers.
i quit using IO after a bad bucket and discussions i have had here with the locals.
i probably prefer Kent presently but have no regular access to the stuff.
i didn't see it listed above
