ok i have never done a sump before and here are my plans:
gonna go with the ASM G-3 and use the mag 9 for return with the overflow rated for 150 gal tank. i may go with a closed loop with a squid and split that on each end later. the tank isnt drilled. what size sump should i use and do you see any probs with this idea?

thanx

Hi Jerry,

Use at least a 30 gallon, preferably 40 gallon. The reason is you want the sump to be able to accomdate any water that flows down and stays down during a power outtage. For a tank of your dimensions, this equates to a little over 30 gallons, assuming 4-5" of standing water in the sump during regular operation.

Your idea sounds fine; you'll definitely want a closed loop since the mag9 won't be nearly enough.

I would go with pump rated for 200-250G. You need to figure in the head loss to pump water from the ground level to the top of the tank, Plus, each bent/angle/diverter will diminish the velocity of the water flow. Your tank is 125, I would go with at least a 200G. The intake of the pump I would also put a ball valve incase if you want to reduce the flow or take the pump apart for maintenance.
