quiet skimmer

I currently have a remora pro and am not pleased with the noise this thing makes. I am putting this system into my living room and want something very quiet. I prefer to use a HOB, but may consider using a sump if that's the only solution.
As a side, another alternative would be to run the skimmer intermittantly on a timer, running it for 12-18 hours when I'm not home. Anyone else doing this?

the precision marine hot-1 is quiet from my experience. they work great.

i have heard of people putting skimmers on a timer.
i have heard others discourage it.

i would skim 24/7.

a remote sump might be a good idea.
a reefer here by the handle of "Righty" has a rockin syatem with a remote sump.

Wow, I had a Remora Pro on my 55gal after using a CPR Backpak and Prism. It was the quietest of all of them... You might want to try the timer idea. I never had one on there, but it's worth a try. Also, how long have you had the skimmer. Maybe I just got used to it, but I swear it got quieter after about 2 weeks.

Unless you use a airstone driven skimmer, otherwise all other skimmers, whether it's beckett, venturi, or spray injection all produce noise.

AquaC is one of the quietest on the market.

My skimmer was making an excessive rattling sound, I took it apart, rinsed everything, re-seated the impeller and now it is quiet again. Not sure how the skimmer in question is put together but thought I would add that thought just in case.

Can you elaborate? Is this done with Styrofoam taped to the sides of the remora?

I put mine in the basement! I run one tank upstairs in the living room and two tanks down stairs in the basement where noise is not an issue. All tanks are plumbed together. I have not seen a really quiet skimmer. You might focus on sound insulation in your tank stand.

Sagi, if you could do a good job on sound insulation for the cabinet, I think you can go with a EV-150, and you will also appreciate its power.

Thanks for all the input. I have been playing around a little with foam and have noticed a small reduction in noise, so I may be able to fine tune it.
