Our MAS has a discussion going about skimmers at the moment that is pretty good, dealing with surface skimming and skimmer performance.
Along the way I brought up recirculating skimmers. I like the fact that water drains directly from the tank, to the skimmer, then to a downstream area. My original thinking was that this keeps you from skimming the same water repeatidly, how a Euro Reef will pull in water is already skimmed. Then again by nature of a recirculating skimmer, isn't it doing the same thing?
The 1 recirculating skimmer I saw was a DAS stand alone model, you plumb the overflow on the tank, to the skimmer, then to the sump. Thing was pretty effective and pulling a lot considering the tank was a whole week old with pre-owned live rock.
Any opinions / experience with these types of skimmers?
