love the look of yellow leather coral so i am doing some research to see what it takes to keep one. from my limited research so far, they are relatively easy to care for, right? anyone keep one? if so, can you share your experience with us? what lighting and current do they like? feeding or just light? can you post a pic of your yellow leather coral?

my tank is 10G with 96W of PC. some LR, sand and a ac500 fuge provide all the filteration.

thanks!

Mine started as a blob of something attached to a rock. It looked like a leather that was cut off the rock and then I got the rock. It grew quickly under a moderate amount of VHO about 6 WPG and has been fragged several times now. It now lives under a 250 watt HQI and looks brighter but it's not growing as fast. Still growing, just slower.

Current is moderate and it's 1/2 way up on the rocks.

I feed the tank Cyclop-eeze I have no idea if it eats any. I believe any food it gets is probably swept up from the lagoon during the dark cycle.

While I believe it's quite hardy I don't believe it ships very well and that would explain high prices at the LFS..

I snapped a new pic today. It allows a comparison of the color with a Yellow Tang. You can see that the color is brighter under the MH than it was before under the VHO in the previous pic.

Growth, like most corals, is environment driven. In my system it seems to double every 6 months under VHO and slower under MH is all I can say because I haven't had MH on this tank very long.
