Outerbanks NC and marine fauna?

i'm headed to the 4 wheel drive area of the outer banks in two weeks. I was just curious what i might find in the Sound that might be kept in a home aquarium (invertebrates such as crabs,snails, mollusks, stars, etc). I am not familiar with any of the local restrictions on removing wildlife and I wouldn't want to remove anything illegally. Any help from some locals or an extraordinarily knowlegdeable californian would
