Hey,

I have found a few of the "evil" anemonies in my tank, whose name I shall not utter.

I've read reports of a shrimp of some sort erradicating these things. Was it peppermint or fire shrimp?

I would simply try to kill the "evil ones" but I cant get to a few of them, and I've been wanting to add a shrimp anyway.

Thanks,

B.

It's peppermint shrimp, provided the evil anemones you speak of are aptaisia.

I have had hit and miss luck with peppermints as far as eating aptaisia, the first time I tried them they worked like a charm, the second time they were not such good predators.

But they are nice and inexpensive shrimp anyway.

Hi,
Can a camel shrimp do it too? I had a few Aiptaisa in my 30 gallon microreef, put a camel shrimp in it, now I don't have Aiptaisa anymore...could the shrimp have eaten them? They disappeared right after I put a very small bubble coral and the shrimp in.

All shrimp, like crabs, can be opportunistic feeders, but in general a camel shrimp shouldn't do it, but if you don't have aiptasia anymore who cares about why! :)

Peppermint is the best bet but only the Wurdemanni Cleaner. The other Peppermint species don't eat Aiptasia.

Camel Shrimp will eat Aiptasia, Most other Anemone, Zoanthids, Button Polyps, LPS and Mushrooms.

It's already in the tank so you might as well wait until you see if it's going to cause damage. Generally they are not considered reef safe. Keep it well fed...
