How high above my tank should I mount my Lumenarc III's?

There will be four across my 8' tank. The tank has 4 two foot openings. With the Eurobracing in the way, I could not even reach into the tank with the reflectors mounted too low. I'll have 400W bulbs and the tank is only 25" deep, so I'm not too concerned about lossing light by raising them.

Another question for those who have experience mounting these reflectors. Mine will be hung from the ceiling. There is no hood. What could be the best way to mount them to keep the weight of cords from making the reflectors lean that way?

Here's a couple of pics of the one reflector sitting caddy corner across one of the openings.

Skip this question. Now that I looked at the socket, I know how to mount it.

Now I just need to figure out the best mounting height. I noticed Sanjay's study of this reflector shows that it only losses 18% of par by raising them from 6" to 12". I might can live with that.

Suggestions and comments, please ;)

If you have the air cooling kit, i would put them as close to the water as possible with some hoist-like thing to get them out of the way when you need to get into the tank. Why waste the light you are paying for?

I do.

I was thinking about trying to figure out a hoisting method. My brain is thinking....

If I made the normal mouting hieght about 3" or 4" above the water, I should have enough room to feed the fish on a daily basis. If I had a hoisting method, it would be great for when I need to get in the tank to work.

Anyone have any hoisting methods that they have tried before?

Why waste the light you are paying for?

Point taken.

Assuming all this is inwall/hidden, I would mount them all to a 2x4 frame (or square tubular aluminum if you are feeling extra DIY-ish).... and have two pulleys mounted to the ceiling. Place the ballasts on top of the frame if the ceiling mounts can handle the weight.

Two pulleys and two cranks. That shouldn't be to hard to rig.

Time to go shopping at Northern Tool. I think they carry that kind of stuff, I think.
