I just discovered my first aiptasia anenome...PANIC! There seem to be no shortage of ideas about how to destroy these pests...but the source of my infestation is mobile. I've got a new Trochus snail with one growing out of a patch of coraline on its shell. Kind of pretty, but I don't want him traveling around the tank spreading these things everywhere.

How do you kill an aiptasia riding around on a living snail?

We need a better, closer picture, but I'm not so sure that's Aiptasia sp.

Really? That would obviously be great news...

Here's a couple more closer pics of the animal on the Trochus' shell, I'm not sure if they're really much better.

I'll also include a pic of the "aiptasia" on the sand that I'm attributing to the Trochus' hitchhiker. I guess I'm not even really sure that it's the same animal, either.

What do you think? Aiptasia, or something desirable?

Thanks for your help!

The throchus would likely be ok if you took it out of the water for as long as it takes to inject the kalk paste into the aiptasia.

Don't use kalk. There are some filter-feeding worm on the same snail, like a feather fan.

I would just take the snail out, and use a old tooth brush to brush the area where the A. used to be, and run some water to wash the cells away.

Wouldn't it be fine if you just were careful to only inject the aiptasia? or would the kalk run everywhere? I always used to use quite a viscous kalk solution and I can't see that running all the way round the shell to where the mini feather duster is...
