Smart keepers will keep an aiptasia tank though that they can periodically stock some food for the Nudis in another tank so that you can have a steady supply. That way if you see the aiptasia coming back stick it back in your main tank near the aiptasia and hopefully the next time it'll get it.
You could also offer an aiptasia removal service to fellow reefers willing to bring you rocks with aiptasia on it
But I agree getting these animals (they are still animals) just to deal with a single problem without caring about them is very careless, similar to getting a copper band JUST for aiptasia then trying to get rid of it.
My peppermint shrimp wiped out my aptaisia population, last one was eaten this week. In the coming weeks I am going to keep an eye on the pep. But I visually confirmed she ate a nice chunk of frozen food and hopefully she is satiated and won't bother my zoanthids, Acanthastera or anything else. I think if you keep them fat and happy, they have no reason to hammer on your show specimens.
I think the peppermints are a great shrimp to have in an aquarium, just make sure you do not house them with large wrasses. I've had a mated pair for a couple of months with absolutely no problems with the other corals in the tank and I have NEVER seen aiptasia in this aquarium (though I have plenty of mojanos).
