White Sponges growing good or bad

Hello everyone..

I noticed that there are some white sponges growing on one of pieces of LR. I have look and cannot seem to find a good answer to this question.

Is the sponge good and is something that I should keep and watch grow

Or

Is it a bad thing and is something that we should get rid of.

I have a small white sponge that has been on a small piece of rock for a couple of years- he's cool.
