Dursos put out a lot of bubbles in the sump since it sucks down air. Any ideas how to reduce this spray? I've been thinking about using filter socks, but replacing them regularly has its drawbacks.
That does help, but all the bubbles still cause a lot of spray in my sump. I've also thought about building an acrylic cover of sorts over the area where the overflow dumps into the sump.
yea.. but that still leaves spray stuck to the sides of your sump in that area (if that would be a consern). could the output be put under a angled baffle to slow the bubbles down? this seems a bit strange to me but I didnt think this was such a big problem (I didnt know that the durso put out that much air in a sump).. what is your flowrate like for the size of the downpipe? are you using a smaller flowrate then the pipe can handle, average or pushing it a little hard? Im thinking that this might make a diffence in the amount of air but its all speculation on my part..
My plumbing is a standard durso. That is, 1 1/4" narrowed down to 1". It makes a 45 degree bend under the tank. I'm using a Panworld pump that puts out about 1200gph. The durso seems to be working great .... just lots of expected bubbles (since Dursos actively suck in air) that I'd like to control better. Directing the flow to a sump wall results in a lot of spray (and future salt creep) on that wall.
I use a bunch of 90 pvc's to make a small ladder into the sump, reduces velocity, I also exit the return under water, with a T fitting so it does not gurgle
I've seen live rock rubble built up around the pipe, that seemed to work. I'm going with an acrylic top though. Shallower baffles in a deeper sump would help if you you were starting from scratch, which I know your not len, just an idea.
