My last starfish died months ago what would be a good choice for a new one in a peaceful tank and not real expensive

I would choose a sand sifting star if you have a fairly fine-grained sandbed, they eat detritus, etc. and don't require too much special attention and seem to last for a while. Oh, and they're not really picky with water quality (although it's not a good idea to slack on the WCs).

I wouldn't do a sand sifter imo. They will tear through the sandbed life very quickly. I would do a linkia. Multiflora are the easiest, then the purple, orange, and blue the most difficult.

Ditto on the sand sifter cons, I would also add they can move your rock around and knock the rock, an knock over corals as well. they climb the walls and rock quite fequently when they deplete the sand.
If you get a linka ( any linka ) expect 1-2 years life span maximum.

on the contrairy, you can find srepent stars, in orange, red, purple's, greens, black.
They are ok but they will also get large. They're not known for knocking rock over though.
Stay away from Red Formia stars too. Worse than link. VERY poor life expectancy in captivity.
