cool :) i would get rid of the inside filter though, it will clog up very fast and it doesn't look natural :) try a small hang-on back like aquaclear or a small skimmer like the new fission skimmer or maybe wait for the aquac remora nano.

i think added livestock too fast. remember it is important to take it slow. you should add livestock after the tank is cycled, this takes several weeks. if you plan to add rock later on i would remove your livestock. the cycling from the live rock will probably kill everything.

Actually, this tank is setup to use the bubble filter to demonstrate it is possible to use the bubble filter for small saltwater tank. As for cycling, the tank completed it's cycling after 24hours; you can see the seechem ammonia alert badge on the upper right corner, center disc is yellow - no ammonia.
No skimmer will be use on the tank, this is a skimmer less tank. No live rock and live sand either, just bare bottom.

I'll post upated picture everyday plus water test result every three days.

although the seachem badge-dealy indicates you are "cycled", no system can reach a mature nitrogen cycle in 24 hrs. perhaps the perponderance of the ammonia has been absorbed by the charcoal, but there is undoubtedly a meager nitrosomonos/nitrobacter population. Once the charcoal hits saturation, you're in for a ride.

You'd be much better off using caulerpa as a natural filter media, than the 1970's charcoal bubble box. Add to this a few more pieces of live rock, preferably from a friends established tank, along with a cup or two of his substrate. And then, you MAY be close to "instant" cycling.

Not to discourage you. But if you have another system that is up and running and mature, I'd transfer the livestock over to it, until you can get ths baby humming. With such a small water volume, it is very difficult to gain an edge on nutrient control.

i agree with Snapper. i don't think it could mature in a day. and live rock and sand would help a lot with the cycling, and definitly transfer some rock from a matured tank if you can. but i would love to how this turns out. good luck!!

This is day 5

I've added a blue background and a treasure chest decor to the tank. The decor help keep the bubble filter in place.

Water test result are:

Temp:82
pH: 8.5
ammonia: 0
NO2:0
NO3:0
Alk: 180
CA:500ppm

You are right about the cycle if this was a regular setup, but it isn't.

The seachem badge may not be 100% accurate but is very close to it.
The water test is done by 3 different test kits to compare the results.

This tank did complete it's nitrogen cycle in 1 day, no lies. The inventer of filtration system has the same setup in a bucket with 4 fish for 3 year and is still running.

id make sure that plactic tressure is safe. some leach chemicals. also i think that one fish is all your gonna be able to keep in a set up like that even tho carbon is a great bio filter its arobic only and unless your planning on doing alot of water changed O_O then i wouldent add any more fish.. wait just knoticed you added another one. anyways good luck

Day 6

finally got some more fish in today. The chromis was move back to its original tank to make room for the new arrivals. The clown came in pretty bad shape, after two hours slow acclimation it looks a little better, I can only hope it survive the night. The tiny lion fish is too small for my other tanks, so this were it has to stay for the time been. The water was crystal clear this morning, the oil slik on the surface of the water from feeding P.E. mysid yesterday was all but gone.

Day 7

Well, lost one clown overnight, couldn't save it, at least I'll get my money back from the supplyer. There were some protein bubbles on the top this morning, after I feed some coral steimuate within 20 minutes the protein bubbles were gone. The lion is starting looking for food, but it won't take the forzen mysid yet, so I'll have to try some live brine today.

Sorry about the loss of your Clownfish.

Thanks, it's my fault. I should of watch the workers pack the box may sure they put the small fish on top. Instead I went in to the office and chat with the owner, the bags with the two clown were stuff at the bottom, by the time I got back most of the water and air were gone, its miracle I only lost one.

I commend your bravery in trying this, but
I realy think you are adding fish way to fast with this small of a tank.
I had a 5.5g nano running for 4.5 years, I am pretty familiar with them as reef set ups. the smaller the tank the harder to maintain. Bigger salenity swings, temperature swings, and amonia , nitrites, and nirtates build up realy fast.
each time you add a fish to that small of a body of water your tank cycles again. Even with a tiny clown fish,or a micro small chromis.
Especialy given the fact that your running with no skimmer, no rock and a bare bottom.
The next one to die off on you will be the baby lion more than likely.
From stress of a small tank, and no bacteria built up yet to nuetralize the amonia out put from all those fish. Lion fish have huge apetites, are very messy eaters, and very messy deficaters. But when they are that young they are very hard to feed (as you are finding out) the stress of so many fish in such a confined space will consantly freak him out. I fhe is constantyl stressed he wont eat much at all.
even by himself he would crash the tank IMHO.
You are right that bubble filter will maintain the tank up to a certain bioload, but you have already surpassed that by 3 fish.
If it were me I would Stuff it with live rockbut no substrate.
The rock would be your filtration along with FREQUENT water changes.
I would add a mini jet 404 if I were you as well.
Your going to need all the water movement youcan get tokeep the fecies, and debries a float long enogh tomake it through the bubble filter.

Fragmaster - two words:

1 - Agreed! I agree with everything you stated there. I think the fish are doomed but I hope I'm wrong.

2 - Spellchecker.

i also agree with frag master and guy. although they all look cool. your going to have some big problems. that is to say if your lucky and you have been able to switch your lion fish to frozen. the lion fish i used to have required live feeding, which throughs off alot of amonia, which equals dead fish. but that is the smallest lionfish i've ever seem. good find!
