eBay is the new forum for SUCKER City.

People can now sell their aquarium pest on eBay. They list them as "Tulip Anemones", which have many very attractive pictures of these little fluorescent green anemones with neon pink tips that grow no larger than a dime.

Headlining the page: "WILL NOT STING OTHER CORALS" or "WILL SPLIT UNDER RIGHT CONDITIONS".... Of course they will split under right conditions. If you have a reef tank, they will take over in a month or less and sting anything they touch!

I think I am going to start selling apstasia on eBay as list it as a "Rare Translucent Anemone". *only found in the Red Sea!!* (will increase profit by 200% at least)

How do you feel about this?

I have mixed feelings...

On the one hand I strongly feel that taking advantage of someone's ignorance is despicable as is the purchaser's lack of research before buying.

On the other hand... maybe this is a 2nd chance for the majano. Instead of being killed they can reproduce and thrive in someone else's tank that maybe actually wants a tank full. 8O

Majano is not the most popular of pest in reef aquaria as apstasia is made out to be. Maybe because of its striking appearence or its cute size.

Like a rose, but it has thorns.

First let me say that I would never sell these to anyone else. If someone wanted them from my tank I would offer them freely with frank advice.

Having said that, these are some of my favorite little creatures. Mine are incredibly photogenic, do not bother anything else that I can see (including acros so far) and spread FAR slower than aptasia. If they get into an area that you don't like, Joes will kill them as long as you use it as directed.

I actually have two varieties. I'll try and post some of my better macro shots of them later when I get home.

They are more like mushrooms, clauvaria, and GSP than aptasia. Pretty but invasive.

Just about everything coral related stings in a tank, majanos are another one of such creatures (Cnidaria). They can be very pretty without a doubt, but as mentioned can get invasive, and so can just about any other coral, even slower growing corals how many have lost a SPS colony because another one got too close and launched an attack?

As to the selling? Well hey some people still sell chaeto, caulerpa, generic xenia, or GSP amongst other things, where in my local if you're nice enough most likely you can get all this for free. The issue with online e-tailers is they can't really get every nitch because of the fluctuation of local economy which dictates local price, some place likes LiveAquaria might sell a small colony of colt coral for $25, here in SF I'd give you a small colony for free if you're not a butthole. My local economy is different than say someone in Georgia, or Iowa.

Now if there's misleading information ie "does not sting" then that's a whole other matter!
