latex paint as it can be removed later and replaced with dif color...he can also look into window tinting sheets that use soapy water to adhere to the tank they now come in WIDE array of colors and can also be removed and will not be affected by sw getting on it

I think spray enamel offers the best results, but be sure to mask it well. Latex paint with a roller is another option if you wanted to do it by hand.

I used a product called Oceanvisions ( www.thatpetplace.com has it) on my tanks. It is similar to the window tinting film except it is a solid color. It comes in black, green, blue, and mirror I think. It worked great and looks exactly like the tank back is just black acrylic.

Second the latex idea. If you sell the tank ever, being able to easily strip the paint off is a big +

I liked the film (like leftovers posted) I had on my last tank, it worked really well and looked nice. I've also done the latex paint gig with good results. I painted the bottom 1/3 black, mixed in a small amouth of black and a deep blue for the middle 1/3 and straight blue for the top 1/3, blending each color at the joints. It looked nice.

any sort of paint will work, simply dip a rag and start rubbing, since it's glass you can always razor blade it off later if you don't like it.

Yeah, and its not like you have to do a good job of smoothing the paint out or anything as long as its all covered. The side you will look at later will be exactly as flat as the glass no matter how you put the paint on.
