But most likely not. Most rope light is small incandescent lamps. SO it's just a bunch of small white lights. Once you shine those through blue plastic most of the directionality is diffused, so you don't get the shimmer lines.
I'm on vacation right now, but when I get home I'll check out the rope light I have. If it produces a ripple effect, you can have it. I bought it at home depot a couple years ago and never used it. If you don't hear from me in a couple days. Please e-mail me, I might forget.
