My system has a 20 gallon tank that fills itself with RO water and then drains into the main system through a float valve. The whole thing works great because now I don't have to keep topping the tank off, the only thing I have to do is every couple of weeks or so I turn the RO water on and let it fill back up.
I also use the same tank for water changes, I fill it all the way up, hold the float valve closed with a rubber band, and add salt. Then heaters and mixing powerheads and then I siphon water out of the main and let the make up water drain back in.
Works great.
However, there is green algae all over the top off tank, Its starting to get worse. I cleaned the tank with bleach and let it air dry before I used it so its just from the water and the light in the room its in I guess.
Am I doing more harm than good by taking top off water from it? Should I clean the algae in there or let it stabilize?
