I remember reading people talking about this product in their reef tanks... It sounded great for placing frags and such... so I bookmarked the page... just thought I'd check in to make sure I didn't imagine that this stuff is reef safe and useful.

Any input much appreciated.

I found plenty of positive comments when I searched RC. I ordered some based on what I read.

Even if it is reef safe, it takes took long to cure to be useful for mounting frags. Here's what they say on the website:

That would be my worry...any data or word on safety?

It is useful for art and stuff, where color is important. Imagine to have a nice purple Montipora mounted on a bronze rock?

Lets see, I think you get about 2 oz for about 4 bucks at Homdepot...multiply by some stupid amount if you want an "aquarium" rebranded version.

Apoxie is 4Ibs for 30 bucks maybe 40 with shipping?

My math must be wrong, I thought that was a deal. Plus longer work time etc. People who use it have said stuff like this

It is very different than HD's Aquamend. Doesn't make the skimmer go crazy and doesn't have that nasty chemical smell. In fact, it kinda smells nice... a little like play-doh.

And as I mentioned, the best part is that it's sticky, so it's easier to mount things. Shipping is incredibly fast too.

Honestly, I can't say enough good things about it. (And no, i am not affiliated with the company or product.)

The 4 oz "Apoxie" is $8.00 plus shipping, which is more money than even the same-sized aquarium-branded epoxies.

You can buy other commercial epoxies in large cans that are reef-safe, but who wants 4 lbs of this stuff anyway! It doesn't last very long once it has been opened, so I wouldn't recommend buying a large container of any epoxy unless you plan to use it quickly.

Also, I see no benefit to a 24 hr cure time or 3 hr set time for aquarium use, especially when mounting frags. You want to lock frags in place quickly; not prop them up for 24 hrs while waiting for the epoxy to cure. I noticed too that someone had an issue with the product never fully hardening and linked it to being wet.

AND, we still don't know if it's reef-safe.

Still don't see the point of it, but please let us know how it works out for you.

You are so right on the price. You'd lose 4 cents to marinedepots price for 8oz of "" epoxy.

I find it lasts fine. I may not need 4Ibs in a hurry, I certainly blow through 4 ozs too quickly. I just used epoxy that was opened a year ago... I normally wouldn't have it sit around at all but this piece was dropped behind my skimmer and I found it a year later on a maintenance kick.

I find regular Epoxy, sets up in the tank way fast... (I don't know about this product in Saltwater) and I'd like some more time. We'll see.

We only have anecdotal evidence on it being reef safe. I guess the same is true for epoxy but there's probably a lot more.

The guy I was reading says he's used it for 14 years.

OK, Somehow it got to me in about a day from Wisconsin. 9$ shipping.

I've tried it out so here's what I know so far.
Smells a whole lot better than Epoxy.
I don't react with Urticaria when I use it. (Epoxy gives me hives)
Much easier to work and much softer.
Easier to pack connect to a rock, I guess mainly because it is softer but it seems a little stickier.

I didn't waste much time letting it cure and small clouds of material did come off the piece I put into the tank which I didn't much like the look of.

Reaction of the SPS frag was to slime a little. Looks fine the next day with good polyp extension and it's still in the same place I put it despite being a biggish frag and in a high flow area.

Colour: I bought the pink as that is the most common shade of Coraline algae that I have in the tank. However, it looks pretty white under 14k phoenix Metal Halides.... so don't expect it to blend in right away.

I'm going to create a few be-spoke rocks from it today, to improve the integity of the reef.
