So Im wondering where calcium is supplied from on the reefs. Im guessing there is a limestone bed exposed? If so why cant we put limestone in our tanks for the same purpose?

Limestone is created from ancient Corals and other skeleton building organisms. It doesn't dissolve fast enough in our tanks to be a useful Calcium source. If you put it in a chamber and lower the ph using CO2 then it will dissolve and release Calcium and Carbonate. This is what a calcium reactor does.

Rivers resupply the reefs with calcium.
