Man I wonder what type of evaporation they get!

As a percentage of total volume, probably a hell of a lot less than you do at home. Volume vs. surface area, all that jazz. :D

Great find Karl! What an awesome job.

Its nice to know that we at home basically have the same setups as the national aquariums do. With all of the back and forth on the salt brands it is REAL nice to see that big bag of IO. That is what I use and I'm sure they have alot more $ invested into their tank than I do. :D

I have been behind the scenes there and I ahve been in the rooms where the interview was. It is so impressive to see the size of the pumps and skimmers and CA reactors and light banks. However, just like he said, it is exactly the same as our set ups at home, just a tad bigger. If anyone goes to the aquarium I highly recommend the behind the scenes tour, you won't be dissapointed. It was a great trip for our Reef club.

Our reef club (well those local to SF) got a behinds the scene tour of Steinhart, now that was impressive as it was working the 20,000 gallon tank (and maybe a handful of other tanks? Matt can chime in here), but 8 million gallons? Yikes, can't imagine how much additional stuff that'll be.

Well, I get around 2 % evap. If they get even .1% daily, that's still 8 thousand gallons a day of top-off water. 8O

What I loved about this video was all the foam from the skimmer! Makes me happy! :D

I finally was able to visit the Georgia Aquarium this past weekend, I must say, he missed a spot. It was in the tunnel. I should have taken a picture.

Very impressive facility. Their displays are huge! And Whale Sharks. What more needs to be said.

Louey you should have said something, we were in Atl this weekend and had a reef meeting and such. We could have hooked up for a beer or something. GA aquarium is just huge isn't it? I especially like how they have the wave in the reef tank. It crashed right over the top of you. Very neat.

In the basement? Yeah, that was the 20,000 g tank. Did you see the two RK2 skimmers? The huge centrifugal pumps, the 8" ABS piping throughout, the pallet sized bags of IO salt, the huge sand filters? From that video it looks like they're using the same stuff in GA, just a hell of a lot more of everything. 8O
