I got my aqua c remora nano in the mail yesterday and had it going by lunch. Does this thing get any quieter?? my wife is already wanting to throw it out! 8O Its been running for about 24 hours and its not producing any skimmate yet bubbles not even getting half way up the tube is this normal?

I don't know if it get much quieter after breaking in, but it should get more skimmate later.

sorry to hear that it is kind of loud for your wife. You may need to get a different skimmer to try out later. A lot of noise is subjective, maybe try to muffle the noise with enclosure or some romantic music in the backgroup before you take her to bed?

Yeah let it break in first. The skimmate will start producing. Not sure if you adjusted the water injection screw located below the skimmate collection cup...you can try that. I have one and it's great....doesn't make much noise. I only really hear it at night when everything in the house is shut off. :)

It takes it a bit of time to break in and you have to adjust the cup height to tune it to get the right skimmate. Mine never got quieter after breakin period. It was pretty loud. I changed to a different skimmer, a needle impeller and it's much quieter.

It will produce more skim yes. I have the same skimmer and I wouldn't recommend playing with the spray nob screw.

When you take off the collection cup and look into the skimmer you see 3 chambers....the spray chamber...the bubble chamber...and the return chamber...

Cut a peice of plexiglass to fit snugly into the spray chamber. WHen you then put the collection cup back it will be WAY quieter.

Hard to cut it just right but I did this and now it's barely noticable. Otherwise THEY LIE It doesn't quiet after break in period and I also disagree with their claim of less bubbles coming from the return...had to put a small peice of sponge to stop those....!

careful of the sponge. if it gets clogged, it will overflow 8O

meanwhile, i have the surface skimmer box too, and the bubbles still escape.

do yall think running the skimmer through a sump setup would help with the bubbles. i am pretty sure that this would help with the noise.
I am going to start a thread with questions about setting my 20 gal tall up.

yes. i do think so. i recently purchased a sump for the little tank, just so i could put the remora down there. i haven't gotten around to it yet though. i'm not sure if i want to replace the remora with an in-sump skimmer, or just make it an in-sump. i haven't taken pictures of the 30 gallon cube in a while because there are so many bubbles in the water, it looks cloudy. see----

hmmm... for some reason I never had problems with bubbles and I met another guy with a aquac and he never had problems with it either. They're good skimmers but they are loud. After you're used to it you can tune the noise out :P

some of the best HOT skimmers you can get... THE best (besides the much more expensive Deltec) IMO. I had one for a few years, and for the performance I ignored the gentle hisssss sound that it made.

gentle hissss? are you collecting a check from aqua-c for your comments? we all own them. we know how it sounds :?
this is the loudest skimmer i have owned. i have had 4 skimmers so far. 2 ASM, 1 aqua medic(which was better than the aqua-c IMO), and the aqua-c.

Yeah, spray inductor... That's why "venturi" was in quotes. ;)

I have to agree with X. While I enjoy the skimmer so far (good skimmate), it is the loudest thing out of both of my systems. It's not very easy to ignore. Hopefully, it won't be recognizable after the fish room is done and it's behind closed doors.

i'm thinking about putting mine in the cabinet, in the sump. the new sump will make the 30 cube, about a 50-55 gallon tank after i implement it. i might just get another skimmer all together. small bio load still, but alot more water.

If you go that route, choose a needlewheel skimmer with a quiet pump and you won't even hear it! :D

Or you could try to go with a bigger pump (making it closer to the remora pro) and putting it in the sump. Won't make it completely quiet, but definitely quieter than before and will probably handle the increase in volume. ;)
