i bought a couple pounds of live red ogo plant. my plan was to make my frag system a stand alone system, with a sump w/refugium (since i now have 2 fish in it), and use the ogo as the macroalgae for nutrient export.

i've read that ogo is a slow grower and does well under moderate lighting. what i didn't read about was it's ability to be used as something for nutrient export, or is it just used for herbivore food.

does anyone have information about this macroalgae?

thanks.

Hey X

I bought 4 pounds of it. Had it under moderate light swirling around and it didnt grow much in over a year. My tangs liked it, but like nori much more. I think its over rated. Nori is much better and denser in nutrient. IMO

what kind of bio-load did the water come from that ran through it? was it the refugium from your display?

It was on my 75g refugium on my 210 fowlr. I have some calurupa growing in there and it almost has the tank filled in 4 months.

Ive seen some red "sheet" algae. Looks good.

ugh..just found this:

"Extensive research has been done on the feasibility of mariculture of this popular edible seaweed. Tank cultures have not been successful, but recent studies have shown successful mariculture of G. parvispora in floating baskets has high yields in the protected environment of traditional Hawaiian fishponds."
