I just installed a Phosban 150 reactor to my 75g reef. The tank is only a little over a month old. I installed the reactor because I am starting to get some hair algea growing and want to nip it before it gets out of control. I filled the reactor about 4 and a half inches of media. All is working fine, just wondering how often the GFO media normally has to be changed??

It depends on your PO4 levels. You need a PO4 test kit to find out when the PO4 levels start rising again. That's when you replace the media. I usually replace mine about every month.

Thanks Len, I do have a salifert PO4 kit, just curious if it was going to be weeks or months(that media is expensive!) Looks like another $10 a month to add to the addiction!

I wouldnt trust a Salifert PO4 kit as my reading was always 0. I got the Merck PO4 kit and I'm very happy with it.

IMO for the cost of the high end kits your beter off buying the hanna colorimeter. Its accurate and super asy, no guessing. I looked at the D-D kit and I think it was like $80, I am much happier with my hanna meter.
