Hi,
Has anyone used Kents PhytoPlex or Phytoplan to feed tridacna clams? Or do you have a better suggestion? I know they get most of what they need from light but I know they also feed. I really am not all that interested in doing the culture thing.

Thanks for any suggestions
Frank A.

I used to target feed my clams with DT, but after about half a year, I found absolutely no benefit (they did not look healthier or grow faster), so I stopped.

Target feeding clams is a big no no. I suspect it simply closed up from too many particles (phyto cells, etc) floating about.

Barry at Clam's Direct and Dick Perrin @ Tropiquarium, both with more clam experience then most, have found quicker growth and healthier specimens. You should see the growth Dick gets at Trop.

Fish pi$$ is good enough :)

if all you strive for is "good enough" then that's all you need. I go for superb health, growth and able to breed :P

Guess that's why you no longer have a tank and I do  Kidding of course, or am I 8O

No Deuce Bigelow here. Good enough is for the reef hobbyist. Superb health and growth is for the family :D

That is why you no longer have a tank :D Good enough is a poor level of achievement when talking about live animals. All should strive for superb growth and health!

Here's Gresh-know-it-all...thinks he knows why I left  You have me confused with someone else. Tank was superb before I left. Always promised to leave the hobby on my terms, and not get forced out.

I was just never the extreme reefer with the high-end equipment, zeo, or even actinic. Did that put me at a poor level of achievement? Unless you believe there's only one way to have a reef with superb growth and health? You're not that ignorant, are you Gresh?

I know that is not why you left Karl but I can still give you friendly jabs about it :P

Nope, not ignorant, and you?

I also think you have been understating your level of commitment and care you gave your animals. IME you outwardly showed you highly cared for your animals and did what it took to give them a top notch environment (in order to thrive, not just survive). Hardly "good enough" which is pretty much saying "enough to get by" IMO.

Man, Gresh! That's the 2nd time you got me with that crap. I don't know whether it's your assumptions from the hip, or you're just effn' with me :P
