As I now have one, I'd be interested to know what's recommended for their care. Did an internet search, but there are a lot of quasi-commercial sites out there and it's hard to know where to look.

Here's my guy. He's currently not directly under my 150w MH and in a moderately low flow part of the tank, given his fleshy polyps (oo-er). But I've read that Lobos actually do pretty well under brighter light. Is that right?

If minimally "adequate"light and water movement is supplied they should do OK anywhere in your tank. But,bright direct light and calm water movement is what they like best. their feeding tentacles are usually out at night, sometimes during the day and they will almost beg for food. Hope this helps.

That's quite pretty Tom, I have always kept them in a fairly calm part of the tank - those fleshy polyps look like they would tear or get abraded fairly easily.

Thanks both - useful advice. I think it's alright where it is for now, but I'll need to position it permanently at some point and this will help. :)

Lobos are bottomless pits when it comes to feeding, as well. When you see feeding tentacles give it food, anything meaty tends to do well. Without feeding they tend to grow very slowly and damaged areas tend not to heal very well at all, but when heavily fed they can grow pretty quickly.

Thanks! How regularly would you feed? I've probably fed it every 2-3 days so far, with each head getting maybe 2-3 mysis each. Does that sound about right?

Depends. If I really wanted a growth push from it I'd do daily feedings. For just normal maintenance once or twice a week is plenty.

The amount you're giving it sounds right.

Thanks again. It's really fun to feed - kind of like feeding Audrey II. My wife loves to watch it as it pushes out its tentacles.

The best I've done with them was under moderate constant flow (low force, moderate volume) moderate light (32w 50/50 PC's 2" off the water, 10" water) and heavy feeding. They split many times and grew out quite fast.

Thanks GD. Maybe I won't move them too close to the MH (it's only 150w, but then again the tank's not too deep either).

I actually rewrote what I originally posted as it was too innuendo-laden.
