I got a nice blue crocea in yesterday, and I have it on a flat rock shelf high in the tank sort of wedged against another rock. I know eventually it will attach, but I was wondering of I should should of cradle it into the position I want it (mantle upward rather than cocked at an angle) with small pieces of rock.

Do it the way you want it. I had mine straight up and it grew quickly. Unfortunately I had to get rid of it when my bicolor blenny started picking at it.

Here it is to the right of the maxima clam:

Thank ya sir, any idea how long it will take to attach itself? I can make a 'doughnut' shape out of some dry rock and epoxy to use as a support.

I have seem these croc attached themselves without hours, but that was relocation from one spot of a tank to another spot, and the clams was very healthy.

I would give it a week at the most. If you help it out with some rubbles on the side, it will attach faster. They like to point toward the light, and it would be better if you put it on a concave rock surface.

By the next day it was attached. My maxima took a week or two.

You can use half an old clam shell if you have one, or a donut like you suggested. I placed this rock flater when I let this clam attach which for me with a new arrival seems to take a bit longer (week or so) depending on how byssal threads/gland looked when it came in. I now have it almost vertical and is has been holding on just fine for sometime. I think it has some support under it. I had to take the picture from the side though since I can not see this clam from the front any longer.

Thanks for the pic Ben. I'm excited, this is the first crocea I've ever had and I want it to do well.

I found clams rather easy to keep IME. There tends to be more room for error than there is with SPS corals. Just keep the Ca and Alk up and you'll be fine.
