I was just refered to Manhattan Reefs from the nano reef community. I was out of the reef game for about 2 years and i recently just decided to set up a 10 gallon nano tank until I buy my house and start my large build. I just missed it too much. Right now its just a 10 gallon with a sump made out of a storage container and I only have a few corals, hermits, snails, and an emerald crab in. I'm looking for more people who are involved in frag swaps and meet ups and things because I cant find any good stores where I am in Huntington Long Island. Looking forward to meeting some new people within the reefing community.

Just had a big haul from my LFS in deer park. I got a rock flower anemone in the mix. Hope I didn’t make a mistake. Got a nice frag of Zoas, acans, cyphastrea, and galaxea. I’ll post some pictures when the water clears, I just did a water change

Will a protein skimmer get rid of brown algae on the sand bed? I can’t upload a photo for some reason but I think it’s either diatoms or dinos. Had a bunch of bubbles trapped for a while but now it doesn’t

Hey! Welcome back. Unfortunately protein skimmer won’t get rid of that brown stuff on the sand. Maybe lower your light intensity or duration.
Dangit lol. I kind of figured. I ended up siphoning out as much as I could and doing just a small water change. Right now I dont have any fish in the tank only a few snails, couple hermits, and an emerald crab, then just my corals. I only fed reef roids once but I have been adding Reef Energy AB+ so I guess my nutrients on top of being a brand new tank, the brown is just something that I have to go through and deal with.
