about a month ago i when to sw store in the next town over.looking for some corals/fish and so on.well while i was there i talked to the owner for a min and she was telling me about the live rock they sell 9.99 lbs i was thinking that its abit high but i got a peace 4 lbs. it has some good coralline cover purple and a realy dark red and some other stuff i dont think its coralline, its orange but it looks like coralline just orange.
had 5 or 6 sw clams and some kind of micro algae ive never seen, its short tan in color looks like fan grows in clumps, and a dark red micro algae that grows bubble leaves that are dark red.
well anyway i wanted to remove the tan fan looking algae so i pulled it off the rock, behind the fan I found a hole i didnt think anything of it, then last night i was looking my tank over and i seen some thing moving in the hole so i pulled up a set and waited to see what it was and it didnt take long. its a baby mantis srimp about a 1" long.
so the Q is was the rock worth $40?

man i remember paying those prices.. when i first got started i would drive out to PA to a place called the hidden reef, they had figi at 5.00lb and branching tonga at 7.00lb, which was a much better price if your buying a hundred pounds or more, but man i felt like i was robbed, lol bc you can stock your tank on here with awsome pieces from our members at like 2-3$ a pound.. bug difference..so always check the market before u go and buy anywhere..also a plug for saltwatter critters, russ is the man and will hook you up with whatever u need and cant find...

So I would be pretty happy with the rock. Seems steep at first but I don't mind paying a little more for some nice surprises.
BTW I wouldn't pay that much for rock. Plenty of vendors in here can beat that price considerably.

al, i told you it was fitting!!!!, and i was just giving ideas abt better cost and what ive pd retail, yet ive seen more local guys charge 10.00 for dead rock( well they said its live bc its in water) and up to 13.00 for nice tonga branching rock, and yea it was nice but not THAT nice.. ill leave their names out.. some people may like those places, but other stuff is great in one place and a waste of time in the other!.. if your in florida can you get some of the rcently farmed rock? maybe cheaper bc your closer? just a thought...
