Really cool animals that come with a a few problems. If you want to keep a jellyfish alive for some time you need to keep him in a Kreisel Tank. Also feeding can be a problem.

Sea Apples are cool as hell to look ain nature and are theoretically reefsafe. Seacucumbers belong to the genus Enchinodermata; Holothuroidea; Dendrochirotida; Cucumaridae The part of the name that is always cause for concern is Holothuroidea. All sea apples can evert their internal organs and dispense the poison holothurin, which will kill all fish and be detrimental to your aquarium. Its not to say that it will happen, but its not uncommon. They usually starve to death very slowly in the aquarium.

Do you really want either of these species?

Here is a pic of a Kreisel Tank:

me? no way - just thought that they looked cool...and odd that they were for sale (well I guess flame scallops still are...). You think you would need a tank like that (I actually saw one like while watching 'the worlds dealiest jellyfish' on discovery channel) for a jelly like the upside down one?

I saw that episode. the little cousin of the Box Jelly - Irukandji. That was some crazy stuff man. Makes you think twice about swimming there. I hope they will have a follow up on that Jelly!

The Kreisel aquarium basically prevents the Jelly fish from bumping the glass on the tank which kills it after a couple of bumps. So if you want a Jellyfish then u need one of those. Envision acrillycs makes them.

The jellies in New World weren't in a tank like that - they were resting on the bottom of the tank. I think they are around $40 or so there- maybe a little more.

Those jellies do not require a Kreisel Tank. They rest on the sandbed and are photosynthetic.

i have had both the upside jelly and the sea apple. the jelly fish was great until my powerhead killed him. the seaapple never had a problem with. was in my tank for about 2 years. until i switched to sps then i gave him away to a friend of mine.. who still has the apple till this day. the apple must be 4 years old now..

well i had two sea apples. one was white with yellow legs about the size of a golf ball.. the other was purple, blue with yellow legs about the size of a softball.. at first they moved around. until they found a home. then they stayed. just do not have the current hitting them directley. also make sure it stays away from the heater. as the heater can burn it.. it is cool when they eat the extend there crown the you see one by one the go in its mouth.. talking about them make me want to get another one...
