I put the shrimp in a filter bag so the remains were easy to remove after the cycle. You'll know when it's cycled when the ammonia and nitrites are 0 and nitrates are present. At the beginning your ammonia will increase then peak out and begin to fall as this is falling your nitrites will begin to increase, the nitrites will peak out and begin to fall now the nitrates begin to rise. Note: the system is not cycled if any ammonia or nitrites are present.

Leave to shrimp for 3-4 days then take it out. Like inferno said put it in a mesh bag it make less mess, u will be surprised how much decay happens in 3/4 days.to tell u the truth I test ammonia for the first three days to see how much it has increased.

Then after u get a desent ammonia spike take out the shrimp and the fun waiting part starts ....HTH

Leave the shrimp in the tank until you're ready to put livestock in the tank, then remove the shrimp 2 to 3 days prior to putting in your first fish. You need to keep the bacteria fed until you put in your new ammonia source (FISH).
