I've tried keeping those live shrimp in a tank..they are fun for a few weeks. They bury in the sand, then come out usually at night. But a few weeks is the most I've kept them. I think reef temperatures are too warm. I think they are brown shrimp, from Florida, but I'm not sure. Most live Asian market stuff you would not want- green crabs and mantis shrimp. However, periwinkles can live for a while, but always try to go above the water line. (Chinese markets sell them with the top of the shell cut off. Korean markets sell them intact.) Many years ago I saw live baby abalone at an Asian market. I should have tried them.

The H mart in Edison NJ sells live abalone as well as live Octopus, 14 dollars a lb. They are the small ones but I'm sure one doesn't weigh a pound. Pretty cheap for someone looking to buy a pet octo.
